SERCOS III Unanimously Accepted as IEC Standard

The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) has unanimously approved SERCOS III, the real-time Ethernet version of the SERCOS interface, as part of international standard IEC 61784-2 and IEC 61158. Read the news release.

IXXAT Automation to Develop Safety Stack Software for SERCOS International

SERCOS International and IXXAT Automation GmbH announced their cooperation in the area of safe real-time communication, where IXXAT will develop a portable stack software for the CIP Safety on SERCOS safety protocol. The stack software can be used for SERCOS master as well as SERCOS slave implementation and consists of a CIP Safety layer and a CIP Safety on SERCOS adaptation layer. Read the news release.

SERCOS/IP Protocol Specification Released

The S/IP (SERCOS/Internet Protocol) specification has been released by SERCOS International. The protocol allows standard Ethernet IP communication with a SERCOS III network both during cyclic real-time network operation and during non-real time operation. During real-time operation, the S/IP telegrams are transmitted via a non-real-time channel, without any negative effect on the real-time network behavior. Unlike some competitive Ethernet motion networks, a SERCOS master need not be operational for IP communication to function. Read the news release.
