CIP Safety on SERCOS Specification Released
At the recent Hannover Fair, SERCOS International announced that the evaluation by TÜV Rheinland and BGIA St. Augustin of the CIP Safety on SERCOS specification has been completed and it is being released as a function-specific profile (FSP Safety) for Industrial Ethernet-based SERCOS III. The extensions specified by SERCOS International will be included in Edition 2.2. of the CIP Safety specification and will be published in the IEC 61784-3 international safety standard. Thus, users of the SERCOS III real-time Ethernet technology can rely on an established network-spanning safety protocol, CIP Safety of the ODVA (Open DeviceNet Vendors Association).

Festo and Dürr Adopt SERCOS III
The group of companies actively supporting the SERCOS III real-time Ethernet solution has grown, with Festo AG, one of the largest German automation specialists, adding the international communication standard to its portfolio. Festo manufactures pneumatic and electrical components and systems. As Festo's first SERCOS customer, Dürr AG will be integrating Festo solutions into the Dürr EcoRPC robot guidance system. Dürr is a leading machine and plant-manufacturing group with around 90% of its business in the automobile industry worldwide. Dürr also supplies the aviation, mechanical engineering, and chemical and pharmaceuticals industries.

Demand is increasing in Asia for uniform automation solutions and for higher flexibility in the production sector. As the SERCOS III real time Ethernet system fulfils these requirements, and thousands of applications with the previous versions of the SERCOS interface have been successfully applied since the 1990s, SERCOS International is further strengthening its activities in Asia.
