Rockwell Automation Offers Integrated Motion with ControlLogix® and SERCOS Interface™
User-friendly module ideal for simple motion applications with up to six servo axes
Rockwell Automation has introduced a new module that combines an Allen-Bradley 1756-L6x family ControlLogix controller with a SERCOS interface motion module. This new module is a cost-effective option for OEMs and end users who require both the powerful performance and functionality of the ControlLogix platform and motion control capabilities for small, low-axis-count machines.
"Rockwell Automation is one of the first automation suppliers to recognize the value in tightly integrating sequential and motion control, and this new module expands our offerings in this area," said Phil Muren, product marketing manager, Logix/NetLinx/Kinetix Business, Rockwell Automation. "It is ideal for machines with low axis counts or for OEMs who are already using ControlLogix on more complicated applications and wish to extend it to their smaller machines."
The new module provides control for three axes of ControlLogix integrated motion. Users can also add a second motion interface module in the ControlLogix rack
-- for up to six axes total.
The ControlLogix/SERCOS interface combination module is an ideal extension to the Rockwell Automation existing Kinetix Integrated Motion offerings. It is compatible with the full line of Kinetix servo drives and motors, which offer a broad range of capabilities to meet the most demanding sequential and motion control needs.
The combination module uses Rockwell Software RSLogix 5000 v.13 programming software for configuration, and, with 38 different motion instructions included as part of the controller instruction set, the module provides the functionality to address a wide range of applications and eliminates the need for separate programming software. In addition, the new combination module supports ladder, function block, sequential function chart and structured text programming languages.
The combination module also supports CompactFlash memory to provide removable and portable non-volatile storage for user programs, tag data, and the controller and SERCOS interface firmware. CompactFlash allows users to save time and minimizes risk of user error when installing a new controller by loading firmware, programs, and launching run mode all in one step. It also allows users to perform firmware upgrades without RSLogix 5000 or ControlFlash, and to replace controllers by simply inserting the CompactFlash card.
The 1756-L60M03SE Combination ControlLogix Controller and SERCOS Interface Motion Module is commercially
available.
