Pack Profile Conformance
A SERCOS conformance-testing facility already existed at ISW, an institute associated with the University of Stuttgart. They use "Conformizer" software in their conformance testing, and also make the software available to vendors for use in pre-testing products. An extension to this test to ensure conformance to the packaging profile is now available.

Interoperability Demo
The SERCOS interface trade associations demonstrated interoperability by creating a Pack Profile Interoperability Demo, displayed in the OPW (OMAC Packaging Workgroup) booth at the Pack Expo 2004 in Chicago, Pack Expo 2005 in Las Vegas, and at the SPS/IPC/Drives 2004 and 2005 shows in
Nurenberg.

The demo shows how pack profile-compliant SERCOS controllers and servodrives from five different automation technology vendors (Automation Intelligence, Beckhoff, Bosch Rexroth, Danaher Motion and Rockwell Automation) could easily be mixed and matched on machines or packaging lines, working seamlessly without tedious systems integration.

The demo illustrates the benefits of utilizing the SERCOS interface (IEC 61491) and PLCopen (IEC 61131-3) international standards, plus OMAC guidelines for interoperability such as the PackML™ state model with PackTags. PackML provides a standard method for packaging machines to communicate data and commands to one another and to high-level factory computer systems.
